How a Humidifier Can Help Cure a Cough
When we inhale dry air, our respiratory tract acts like a sponge losing moisture. The liquid mucous membranes in our nose, throat, and airways dry out. Thin mucus traps dust and germs, which are swept away by tiny hair-like cilia. Dry air turns this mucus into a sticky sludge. This is why, in the morning after overnight sleep, our nous gets blocked. This makes it hard to breathe, and sometimes we can’t even sleep properly. For that reason, your body coughs to dislodge it. While inhaling dry air, our mouth and nose become more sensitive. Also, it makes our airways first line of defense weak by drying the nose & mouth. Those are the reasons we get coughs in low-humidity areas.
By using a humidifier we can avoid those issues because it adds moisture to our room. For a house, 50% is the perfect moisture level. Now, how will someone know if they need a humidifier or not?
In the winter season, humidity gets much lower. Because of that reason our lips, skin & mouth get dry. If you feel those issues, that means your humidity level is low. Using a humidifier will be beneficial for your health. But in every room, the humidity level won’t be the same. In one room it can be 23% & in another room it can be 25%. It depends on the location, weather & Fresh air supply in the room, etc. Nowadays humidifiers are so smart, it shows the correct humidity level of your room & you can easily set it to 50%. But I suggest having a hygrometer. With these small tools, you can easily see your humidity level. If any particular room has a very low humidity level, then check the fresh air supply of that room. Without a proper fresh air supply, any room can be a cause of discomfort. By adding fresh air & exhaust air fan, air-bricks wall or doing hole on doors you can solve the fresh air supply issue. Make sure you don’t place it too near before sleeping, otherwise it will be harmful to your body. The reason behind it is low or high moisture, both aren’t good for our health.

If you have an old model humidifier, which doesn’t give you a particular humidity level. Have on 0 to 4/5 setting. Then you must need a hygrometer. Otherwise, without your acknowledgment, the humidity level can be 60-70%. Because of that mold growth, dust mites, and bacteria, worsening allergies, respiratory issues, etc issues can happen to your body. By using a hygrometer you will know which setting is better for you. You can buy these affordable tools from Amazon.
There are so many reasons behind coughing. If it’s because of low humid air, then a humidifier will give you a solution. But if it is happening because of other issues, like smoking or a polluted environment and you get green, yellow, or black phlegm then you should contact the doctor. Humidifiers play an important role by making sure that your airways aren’t weak.
Humidifiers use guidelines for houses that have mold.
Being a project coordinator, I was involved with so many VRF, Chiller, Split, Ducted mini split, Dehumidifier & humidifier projects. So, sometimes relatives and friends ask for suggestions from me if anything happens to their Heat Ventilation & Air Conditioner system. My friend’s house was affected by mold. Basically in summer, the humidity level is already higher. In summer his house’s humidity level was 63% & in winter the humidity level was 28%. 60% humidity is enough for growing mold on walls & Furniture. I told him to use good quality paint that doesn’t allow mold to grow & to improve the ventilation system of the house.

So he installed two exhaust fans in the kitchen & toilet area and one fresh air fan which has an inbuilt heater on it so that it can be used in winter also. And by using mold removal spray he cleaned those molds. After improving the ventilation, he doesn’t need any dehumidifier in summer for his home anymore. And only for winter I suggest he uses a humidifier.
If your house got mold in summer then use a dehumidifier in summer season & improve your ventilation system if you have any and for winter use a humidifier. That’s the easy answer to everyone. And clean mold with mold removal spray so that your heart won’t be affected by any illness or Cough.
There are many types of humidifiers in the market. For cold places, a steam humidifier is good because it can produce hot mist in your room. But you need to be careful if you have kids or pets, otherwise, they will burn their hands by accident. In that case, you can choose a cold mist humidifier like an evaporative humidifier. Ultrasonic humidifiers also produce cool mist, but evaporative ones are better than ultrasonic ones.

If your house has an HVAC system, then using a whole-house humidifier will be a perfect option for you. Because unlike portable humidifiers, with a duct line you can control humidity all over your house. It is easy to control. You can control it by using a thermostat.

Timely maintenance is mandatory for every machine that exists. For portable humidifiers, clean the filter every week and in ultrasonic humidifiers, there is no filter so try to use clean water all the time to get long tram service. The whole house humidifier changes the water pad before winter starts every year.
